Teatro Circo: the magic of the show under a unique dome

In the heart of Albacete is a jewel of European cultural heritage: Teatro Circo, a unique building that combines history, beauty, and spectacle. Opened in 1887, it is the only remaining circus theatre operating with this dual function in Spain. It offers a wide-ranging program of both theatre and circus in its original arena. It is also the oldest in the world among the few existing ones, surpassing by a few months the age of the Circus Theatre in Amsterdam (Netherlands), the second oldest.

Its architecture is as striking as its history. With a circular hall, carved wooden boxes, and a majestic dome, Teatro Circo captivates visitors from the very first moment. After a meticulous restoration, it has regained all its splendour and has established itself as a national and international cultural landmark.

Every February, this emblematic space hosts the Albacete International Circus Festival, one of the most prestigious festivals of its kind in the world. Furthermore, it is the only international festival held in a circus theatre, giving it a unique character and an incomparable atmosphere.

For several days, the city becomes the world capital of contemporary circus, hosting artists from five continents, official competitions, and shows that dazzle audiences and judges alike.

Beyond the festival, its annual program includes theatre, dance, opera, concerts, magic, and modern circus.

Albacete Teatro Circo: where every February the world looks up at the sky… from a circus ring.
