Water Interpretation Centre (CIAb)

CIAb: more than a museum, an experience where water brings history, and the future to like. Experience the past, present, and future of water… right beneath your feet.

In Albacete, water flows beneath the city and tells a fascinating story. The CIAb, a Water Interpretation Centre, located in the former Water Reservoir, is the first immersive reservoir in Spain, completely restored and converted into a unique museum space.

This former reservoir, built in 1921, was an essential part of Albacete’s water supply. Now, located beneath Parque de la Fiesta del Árbol Park (Tree Festival Park), it has been transformed into a unique place to discover water, sustainability, and urban development.

The CIAb offers an immersive and interactive experience. From the Water Museum to the Water Quality Laboratory, the Urban Cycle Control Centre, and the imposing Mirador Torre del Agua (the tallest elevated reservoir in Castilla-La Mancha), visitors can explore the past, present, and future of water in the city.

This centre informs while simultaneously entertaining and raising awareness. Through digital resources, augmented reality, exhibitions, and educational activities, it is an accessible and inclusive space, designed for audiences of all ages.

The CIAb has also become a cultural hub, hosting art exhibitions, educational workshops, and scientific awards, such as the recent Young Scientific Research and Culture Awards.

Visiting the CIAb is like stepping into an underground oasis that brings heritage, innovation, and sustainability together – an experience that transforms water into culture.

For many Albacete locals, upon returning from a trip and seeing the Water Reservoir on the horizon, it’s a sign that makes them feel and think

“I’m home now!”

And if you’re not a local, you’ll feel it too.

Because if you see the tower in the distance, Albacete welcomes you, even before you arrive.
